The Oak Service for Children and Young People
What is the Oak Service?
The Oak Service is a partnership of organisations with specialist expertise to support survivors of sexual violence and sexual abuse. Together, we aim to ensure that children and adults can access the most appropriate support at the right time according to their past expereinces, current circumstances, goals and aspirations.
Support for Children and Young People
CLEAR has specialist expertise in supporting children and young people who have experienced sexual violence and sexual abuse. Referrals to the Oak Service children and young people will come to the referrals team at CLEAR for review and assessment.
Referrals can be made by parents/carers and by people within the child or young person’s systems of support such as a youth worker, social prescriber or GP. Young people aged 16 and over can self-refer.
Please note that the Oak Service is for survivors of sexual violence and sexual abuse only. If you are seeking support for a child or young person that has experienced other trauma, please look at the information for our CLEAR for Children Trauma Recovery Service.
Referrals
Completing as much information as you can on the referral form will help us to understand the best-fit support for each child and young person. This might be:
- Establishing safety within the wider system of support
- Helping to stabilise the ‘everyday’ for children and their systems of support. This might be working 1-2-1 with a therapist on understanding trauma and its impact, exploring coping strategies and engaging with other support and activities and organisations
- 1-2-1 therapy for trauma recovery with a CLEAR children’s therapist. We offer up to 20 sessions of trauma-informed creative therapies (e.g. play, art, music, drama) or trauma-focused therapy such as trauma-focused CBT or EMDR
- Psychoeducation/therapeutic parenting support for trusted parent/carer
- Referral or signposting to other specialist services such as the Sexual Assault Referral Centre or NHS mental health services
In all of our work, the needs and voice of children and young people are paramount. We will provide care and support that is trauma-informed and upholds children’s rights to be listened to, involved in decision making and have access to support for recovery following abuse.
