CLEAR has been awarded vital funding to support girls’ education and trauma recovery in Cornwall – supported by Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions

Cornish charity CLEAR, specialists in emotional trauma and therapy, has been awarded funding from Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions (WMFTS) to support girls in Cornwall who are struggling to attend or remain in education due to the impact of trauma.

WMFTS is part of Spirax Group, a world-leader in thermal energy and fluid technology solutions. As part of Spirax Group’s Sustainability Strategy it established a Group Education Fund in 2021, as a central source of funding to enable its operating companies to support local educational needs.

WMFTS has both a manufacturing presence and an innovation centre in Cornwall. It has recently secured funding of £60,000 over three years for CLEAR to provide one-to-one therapy sessions for girls where trauma is a barrier to education, helping them remain in or return to school, college or higher education.

Martin Johnston, WMFTS Strategic Business Development Director, said: “We’re proud to work alongside CLEAR, a vital charity supporting some of Cornwall’s most vulnerable young people. By helping fund this programme, we hope to make a tangible difference to girls who face complex emotional challenges that affect their ability to engage with education. This partnership exemplifies our wider commitment to equity, education and wellbeing in the communities we serve.”

Carolyn Webster, CLEAR CEO added:  “This funding can be life-changing for the girls we support. Therapy gives young people the chance to heal, rebuild and reconnect. For many, it’s the key to being able to return to education and unlock a positive future. We’re incredibly grateful to WMFTS and the Spirax Group for recognising the importance of this work and enabling us to reach more young people in need.”

CLEAR is a local Cornish charity with a mission to help children, young people and adults heal from harm caused by abuse and other emotional trauma – and to prevent abuse from occurring. This funding will directly support therapy for girls impacted by abuse, violence, traumatic loss or other serious emotional trauma. In addition to individual therapy, parents and carers will also be offered psychoeducation and therapeutic parenting support to sustain recovery outcomes beyond the duration of the therapy.

In addition to the funding, teams at WMFTS are using their 3 days of annual paid volunteering leave to help CLEAR with developing promotional material to help with further fund-raising efforts.

This collaboration marks a powerful example of how business and charity partnerships can drive local social impact and promote inclusive access to education across Cornwall.
