A new project has started in West Cornwall to support people who are not working and who have been adversely affected by the Covid-19 restrictions. Inside Out will reach out to people whose mental health and emotional wellbeing has taken a knock during the pandemic and help them to get back on track and into training and work.
Led by local charity CLEAR, alongside Rebuild Southwest, Inside Out will provide a mix of online (Inside) and community based (Out) support and activities to help people feel safe about reconnecting with their community, rebuild confidence, motivation and emotional resilience, and provide routes into work and training. It is unique in that it combines trauma-informed therapeutic approaches with practical, enjoyable, community-based activities. The CHAOS Group will also support the project through vocational training and volunteer placements.
Inside Out is funded by the European Social Fund (through Community Led Local Development managed by Cornwall Development Company), Cornwall Council and the project partners themselves.
Carolyn Webster, Chief Executive of CLEAR, said: “This project comes just at the right time as the country looks to safely move on from the pandemic. We have a great combination of skills across CLEAR, Rebuild Southwest, and CHAOS that can give people the helping hand they might need, whether that is emotional support, practical help to get into training and work or simply a way to get back into the swing of things in these difficult times.”
Inside Out values the jobs that are of increasing importance to us all, such as care, cleaning services and construction, providing skills training and supported routeways to work with real living-wage employers.
Craig Little from Rebuild Southwest said: “Rebuild are proud to be part of this great new project and will be delivering the work and training elements alongside our friends at CHAOS. Part of this will be working with the participants outdoors on community activities – we already have some in the pipeline that will bring community places and spaces back into use”

Undeterred by the COVID-19 pandemic or multiple lockdowns Project Linus have kindly donated another batch of handmade quilts to CLEAR.
The quilts and blankets are donated as gifts for children and young people who are receiving support from CLEAR. Each quilt is individually and exquisitely handmade and above all practical – each one is washable at 40 degrees!
Carolyn Webster, CLEAR Chief Executive said: “Thank you Project Linus. Despite the strange times we are living through some things remain reassuringly the same. Your generosity in gifting the beautiful quilts for the children and young people we work with is so appreciated. With hugs from wider family and friends currently limited, the hug from a Project Linus quilt really makes a difference.”
Project Linus is a network of volunteer needlewomen throughout the UK whose aim is to provide comfort and cheer to babies, children and teenagers through the gift of handmade quilt that can provide a sense of security and comfort; and in turn give the volunteers themselves the opportunity to contribute to their local community.
