CLEAR Ideas, our children and young people’s co-production group have an important message for their peers about what happens during therapy and how it can help.

CLEAR Ideas help to keep us real and get involved in every aspect of the charity from development of new services to recruitment of staff.
Nicola Henderson, Children’s Clinical Lead at CLEAR, said: “We have a great deal of pride at CLEAR in the structured feedback and evaluation that is embedded in our clinical practice, demonstrating the effectiveness of our therapy and helping to inform our service development. But just as important is the voice of the children and young people who use our services. This video made by Freya, Freddie and Hannah is a lovely way to reach out to children and young people who may be worried about asking for help.”
CLEAR has teamed up with the Aviva Community Fund and Crowdfunder to raise funds that would make a real difference to the lives of twenty children – the fundraiser (which currently stands at over 90%) has been extended until the beginning of October to give it the maximum chance of success.
Carolyn Webster, Chief Executive of CLEAR, said: “The Aviva Crowdfunder is a great opportunity to for us to raise funds to help children through these challenging times. Many thanks to everyone who has supported us, we are so close to reaching our target.
We know that many children will be adversely affected by the restrictions arising from Covid-19. Whether that is increased risk of abuse to themselves, exposure to domestic abuse of family members; anxiety about parents or family members at risk because they are key workers; or trauma arising from separation and loss. The Aviva Community Crowdfunder will help these children and young people by funding a range of trauma-focused and creative therapies.”
At CLEAR we have a great team of therapists who are specifically trained to help children and young people aged 0-18 to heal from the hurt and harm caused by abuse and other emotional trauma. CLEAR has 12 years’ experience of working with children and our service is accredited by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. This means we meet high standards of clinical practice, safeguarding and good governance. We are the only accredited children's therapy service in Cornwall and one of only 3 in the South West.

The Covid-19 pandemic has put a double squeeze on the ability of CLEAR to support children and adults who have been affected by abuse and emotional trauma.
The pandemic and resultant lockdown has led to changing demands and increased costs, while at the same time severely limiting the opportunities for fundraising and income generation.
Additional funding from the Ministry of Justice through the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Fund and via the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner is helping the charity to adapt to new ways of working, bridge the gap in lost income and prepare for an upturn in people asking for help.
Carolyn Webster, Chief Executive of CLEAR, said: “The new funding is very welcome – it has enabled us continue to support our clients in these difficult times and to adapt our delivery to meet the needs of social distancing, transferring some of our services to online or telephone support. The demand for our services continues to outstrip our resources and our fundraising is even more important in these challenging times.”

CLEAR wholeheartedly supports the Black Lives Matter (www.blacklivesmatter.uk) movement. Racism, hatred and injustice have absolutely no place in anything we do.
We know that words are not enough. We have committed to reviewing every aspect of our organisation to understand what more we can do to eliminate racism and to actively support inclusion, diversity and social justice. We will listen, learn and most importantly, we will act.
We have reviewed our service delivery in light of the easing of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.
Our latest position is:
A further whole-service review will be undertaken September unless external factors dictate that an earlier review is necessary.
