Culture Camp Exhibition at 8 Cathedral Lane
CLEAR, the Cornish Charity which supports people to flourish after trauma, is hosting a display of artwork produced by CLEAR Ideas, CLEAR’s young people’s lived experience group, at 8 Cathedral Lane in Truro from 17th to 21st September.
The artwork was produced during a Culture Camp Project delivered by St Ives School of Painting. The project aimed to give young people a creative outlet and a boost in wellbeing and self-esteem. They got to work with a practicing artist, world renowned Leach Pottery and Tate St Ives, topped off with a Bronze Arts Award for each young person at the end of the project.
Carolyn Webster, CLEAR CEO said: “We are so grateful to the young people who have given permission for their creative work to be shared and so proud of their achievements
Having a voice and being heard is important in a journey of recovery. Sometimes that voice is expressed creatively, through play, music, art or poetry. 8 Cathedral Lane provides a space for us to celebrate, support and amplify those ‘CLEAR Voices’
A huge thank-you to Cat and her team and to Steph, our music therapist who supported the CLEAR Ideas team through their artistic journey.”
Cat Lee, Youth Arts Manager at St Ives School of Painting said: “It has been a privilege to work the young people from CLEAR and you can’t fail to be impressed by their talent. They were so supportive of each other throughout their time on Culture Camp which was lovely to see, and they made new friends. I hope they continue to use art as a means of self-expression in the future.”
Stephanie Allen, CLEAR Music Therapist said: "The young people worked exceptionally hard during this project, each overcoming their own barriers and challenges. They showed strength, maturity, and compassion as they came together to unite as a group. These efforts have resulted in some spectacular and creative art, which we are delighted and proud to share".
CLEAR helps over 800 children, young people and adults each year to heal from harm caused by abuse, violence and other emotional trauma. CLEAR is the only all age, all gender therapy service in Cornwall and the only organisation in the county to be accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
