CLEAR, the Cornish Charity that supports children and adults to flourish after trauma, has appointed a new team to help expand the role of 8 Cathedral Lane in Truro. Thanks to funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund Charlotte Gibbens and Aimee Lowe will job share the new role of Volunteer and Venue Coordinator.

CLEAR’s premises at 8 Cathedral Lane is a real example of high street diversification, offering a flexible retail, training and community space in the heart of Truro. It opened on 7 October 2023 and has opened for 3 days a week selling donated preloved items and handcrafts.

The additional funding will help expand the activities at 8 Cathedral Lane, offering training and wellbeing activities; a space to meet and to host community events such as the Truro Children’s Clothes Bank ‘Baby Clothes Day’ on 12th September 2024.

Carolyn Webster, CLEAR CEO, said:  “Welcome Charlotte and Aimee! Our fantastic new team will initially be focussing on recruiting and supporting more volunteers and people seeking work experience so that we can be operational for 6 days a week.

8 Cathedral Lane is key to our income diversification strategy, helping us to become less reliant on grants to support the ever-increasing demand for therapy and counselling to support trauma recovery. Any surplus made from 8 Cathedral Lane will be reinvested directly into our therapy and counselling services."

Charlotte Gibbens, CLEAR Volunteer and Venue Coordinator, said: “I am excited to be starting this new role and looking forward to meeting and working alongside lots of people and organisations in the local community. The charity shop is a wonderful place to work and to meet so many people who are keen to support us.”

Aimee Lowe, who shares the Venue and Volunteer Coordinator role with Charlotte said:  “I am passionate about broadening access to wellbeing activities, and my new role with CLEAR, who do so much good work, gives me the opportunity to pursue my personal goals and support a great charity. The more successful we are at 8 Cathedral Lane, the more people CLEAR will be able to help”

The Venue and Volunteer Coordinator role is part-funded for 8 months by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Cornwall Council has been chosen by Government as a Lead Authority for the fund and is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The development of 8 Cathedral Lane is also being supported Cornwall Community Foundation through Social Enterprise Fund.

CLEAR helps around 800 children, young people and adults each year to flourish after trauma, building emotional resilience and supporting positive mental health. It is the only all age, all gender therapy service in Cornwall and the only organisation in the county to be accredited by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
