CLEAR Life Story Work

Therapeutic Life Story Worker - Franchesca Rose

I joined CLEAR in 2014 and launched the Therapeutic Life Story Work service in 2015. I really enjoy working with children; learning about their life story; finding out who they are and how they feel about themselves, as well as working out how they want their life to be in the future.

Before working for CLEAR I worked with young people within a supported housing and move on project, where I was also the nominated Safeguarding person. I have previously worked with young people involved in the criminal justice system and I have supported children in a women's refuge who had experienced abusive relationships. I qualified as a social worker in 2013 and I successfully completed a diploma in Therapeutic Life Story Work at the Institute for Arts and Therapy in Education, lead by Richard Rose, in 2016. I am passionate about Therapeutic Life Story Work as a way of helping children and young people gain a better understanding of what has happened in their lives and the positive impact a clearer sense of self can have on their future.

I practice Richard Rose's Therapeutic Life Story Work model, which concentrates on attachment, child development and internal working models. The intervention includes three stages: The Information Bank; Internalisation and The Life Story Book. Therapeutic Life Story Work is generally carried out in the home together with the child's primary carer.

"Franchesca is one of the most caring people I have ever met. Our whole family was involved in our child's life story work and we all grew very fond of her. She was really patient when our child was trying to distract what Fran was talking about. Although a lot of what she had to talk to our child about was very full on she was always very calm which helped everyone feel the same. If I heard of anyone who needed the kind of help she offers I would not hesitate to recommend her. She is truly an amazing person."       From a guardian whom I worked with together with their child and family

"It has helped my child understand her feelings in a child centred way."       From a parent
