Support and basic resources for many families in Cornwall are inadequate, leaving the most vulnerable children without the care and support they need to recover from abuse and neglect. There is a tendency to apportion blame for anti-social behaviour on children themselves whilst their most basic needs remain unaddressed
The increase in violence and abuse affecting children in Cornwall is often attributed to lack of respect or poor moral choices on the part of the children. It is clear, however, that the root causes of the increase in violence and abusive behaviour are much deeper and more complicated.
A child-centered approach to delivering care empowers the child or young person to rebuild and take control of their lives, identify their needs, and regain their self-esteem. They can also derive massive support from guided group work with their peers.
We believe that that these needs can only be met by providing support with therapists who have specialist training and understanding of the needs of these children and young people and in an environment that can provide the safety and comfort equivalent to home.
